October 1, 2012

Flare Industries, LLC (Flare) today announced the appointment of Ben Smith as vice president and chief financial officer, a new position at the company. Flare is an industry leader in design, manufacturing and installation of vapor recovery, combustion, and pollution-control technologies service and equipment.

“We welcome Ben to Flare and know he will make an immediate impact as chief financial officer,” said Michael Hainsworth, chief executive officer, Flare Industries. “With the recent Jordan Technologies acquisition effectively doubling the company’s size, Ben’s broad corporate finance experience and industry knowledge will be instrumental in supporting our future growth.”

Smith has 15 years of experience in energy finance, and most recently was an independent consultant specializing in financial and strategic advisory assignments for a variety of energy industry clients.

“I look forward to joining the Flare team and working alongside the outstanding finance professionals at the company,” said Smith. “Together, we will build a financial foundation that will scale with the continued growth of the business.”

From 2004 until 2011, Smith was a senior investment professional working in Houston and London for a global energy-focused private equity firm with more than $4 billion under management. Prior to 2004, he worked with two energy industry companies, and was focused on managing and investing in a variety of energy-asset classes. Smith began his career with a leading worldwide investment bank.

“The addition of Ben to the Flare management team is yet another step in its progression to a world-class company, recognized for its customer service, technology, innovation and prudent financial management.” said John U. Clarke, executive chairman of Flare and partner at Turnbridge Capital LLC, the company’s private-equity sponsor.

Smith earned a bachelor of arts in economics from Princeton University in 1998.

Flare recently acquired Jordan Technologies, a leading supplier of vapor recovery units (VRUs) and the largest service provider for VRUs in the world market.
